Originally from Burra, Shetland, Thomas Goodlad Fullerton left his young family to work in South Georgia. Saving up money earned in South Georgia to support his family, and eventually invest in the fishing industry in Shetland. When he returned from South Georgia, he had souvenirs with him from his time in South Georgia for the family, including the usual whale ear drums and teeth. More than this, he made a lamp stand from materials found around the whaling station, with bakelite, copper, brass, perspex and scrimshaw! He enjoyed taking pictures while in South Georgia, and annotated these to bring back to show the family at home.
